Three Ways a Child Benefits from Having a Personal Tutor

Located in New York City, Melanie Salkin previously worked as the head buyer of merchandise for Rose Salkin Bridals and Fashions in Brooklyn for over 20 years. Today, in her free time, Melanie Salkin enjoys giving back to the young people in her local community, volunteering at local schools and tutoring those in need of help. Children often greatly benefit from one-on-one tutoring because it:

1. Allows pupils to work their own pace. Often times, teachers dealing with packed classrooms and exam schedules can rush through material and skim over important points needed for success. Having a private tutor ensures at a child can go as quickly or slowly as needed to get every question answered.

2. Improves self-esteem and confidence. Young children are eager to please, and often cover up shortcomings in an attempt to not be embarrassed about areas in which they are struggling. A tutor can build a safe space, where a child can speak freely, and overcome any social anxiety he or she may have.

3. Sets a strong foundation. With elementary schoolchildren, the concepts learned are the building blocks of future success, from reading comprehension to basic math. If these concepts aren't learned well, later grades may prove challenging. A tutor can ensure that these skills are fully grasped, and eliminate any gaps in education.
